In "The Revenge of Gaia" by James Lovelock he states how the human population has destroyed the earth. He describes how the human population's constant need to burn fossil fuels is destroying the world and causing it to heat up. This ultimately will cause the world to be so hot that no living thing can live on this earth. When this ultimately happens the human population will become extinct as well as other species. He also states the term 'Sustainable Development' and quote IGBP scientist Gisbert Glaser and says that we need to balance "the three pillars of social wellbeing, economic prosperity, and environmental protection"(lovelock 3)for our future. I feel that we have failed in this definition because, in these three pillars we are failing and are causing the collapse.
Lovelock also describes the human population as tribal carnivores due to our constant need to consume and waste resources. He also doesn't state this as all bad since it can unite the population to work together. He also describes wind power as useless since it uses too much energy. He suggests that we use nuclear power since it produces power and causes less chemical problems. He also disregards the fact that with nuclear power we can get cancer from it. He states how we will gain cancer sooner or later from the emission we ourselves released in the air. He suggests that we use this until we can actively use fusion power. He states for practical renewable energy schemes it will only provide energy for 5-10 percent of the population which is not nearly enough for everybody.
