In the reading Overshoot the author discusses that overshoot means to “go beyond limits accidently-without intention". The author explained three causes of overshoot would be "growth, acceleration, and Rapid change". Overshoot can be destructive such for example overpopulation can lead to hunger, poverty, etc. But it can also be unimportant that it has no lasting effects. The human population doesn’t see growth as bad but as progress towards something better. The author believes the government sees growth as a way to solve any problem. The article also describes paradigm (the worldview) which is when people view reality the way that they personally want to see it.
The author also discusses ways that the human population can prevent pollution and preserve natural resources but, suggests there should be more that society could do to preserve earth. The author also describes a sustainable world in which there is no poverty and everyone lives stable with a home, food and basic necessities. The author believes that we can't gain this stability based on our need to constantly grow.
On pg. 10 the author discusses the lack of urgency for the human population to reduce sources and sinks because the human population feels the problem is not immediate. The author believes this is a big problem and the human race should respond to it immidiatly. The sources and sinks keeps the balance between natural resources and the waste those resources produce. The sources and sinks problem is that we use natural resources but those sources create waste and pollution. I agree with this because I feel that since there are no immediate dire consequences the human population isn’t rushing to do anything. There is also no immediate gratification for them to gain.
